Tips and Tricks for Controlling Oily Skin

  • Try oil-blotting papers. These are effective at removing excess oil and won't disturb makeup.
  • Try an oil-free foundation powder to help diminish oil and get the coverage you need.
  • When removing makeup at night, use a disposable washcloth to gently exfoliate your skin.
  • Always wash your hands before washing your face.
  • When you do wash your face, use a gentle cleanser and wash twice. The first time loosens makeup and dirt, while the second actually cleans the skin.
  • Wash or change your pillowcases frequently. Over time, hair oils, skin oils, bacteria and styling products can build up on your pillowcase and transfer to your skin, causing breakouts.
  • Be sure to shield your face when spraying styling products in your hair.
  • If your hair is long, try putting it up when you sleep, especially if you use hairspray or other styling products. This will also help keep styling products from building up on your pillow.
  • EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE. But do it gently. Scrubbing too hard will only aggravate acne.
  • Use a good facial mask at least once a week, increasing the frequency the week of your menstrual period. Your skin needs this deep cleaning so that pores don't have a chance to get clogged and form pimples.
  • Be aware of the climate you live in and how it affects your skin. Figure out what you can do to help keep your skin balanced through temperature and humidity changes.
